Tottenham Hotspur continued their strong run of recent form by beating West Bromwich Albion 4-0 at White Hart Lane on Saturday, in a display that must be adjudged to have been close to perfect.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men entered the clash in exemplary form but a recent poor track record against a defiant Baggies side threatened to make it tough afternoon.
However, from the very first whistle there was only ever going to be one winner – with the hosts taking complete control of possession and subsequently the game.
Although Ben Foster’s goal was breached four times, only the goalkeeper’s heroics prevented an even more commanding scoreline being recorded.
West Brom had little to no chances to score and the gulf in class between the sides was clearly evident.
The result and performance shows that this Tottenham side is maturing well under Pochettino and must be adjudged as superior to the team that finished third in the Premier League last season.
It also instils a real confidence that a positive result against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next weekend can be the springboard for a potential title push again in 2016-17.
