Tottenham face battle for young Spaniard

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a summer duel to secure the signature of Samu Castillejo, according to Spanish media outlet Calcio Mercato.

The former Spain Under-21 international joined the Yellow Submarine’s from fellow La Liga side Malaga in 2015, but has continued to split opinion inside the Estadio de la Ceremica  with a plethora of indifferent displays.

The 22-year-old has shown promise during his 36 appearances for Villarreal this season, however appears to lack clinical quality in the final-third with just three goals and four assists so far.

But it is thought that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring in the pacey winger as replacement for either Erik Lamela or Moussa Sissoko – whose futures looks very much uncertain at White Hart Lane.

Castillejo is under contract at the Castellon club until 2020 which will likely increase the expected transfer fee, and the North London club will also have to contend with Serie A giants Napoli – who are also reportedly monitoring the young talent.
