Alderweireld tweets after Tottenham cup win, Spurs fans all saying the same thing

Toby Alderweireld took to Twitter to congratulate the team after a 6-1 win over Rochdale on Wednesday night, with the Spurs fans using the opportunity to urge the defender to sign a new contract.

There has been speculation over the Belgian’s future recently, with contract negotiations between the player and the club said to have reached an impasse.

Alderweireld has been a critical man in the Tottenham team over recent seasons, with the centre-half proving himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

However, it looks as though Spurs will need to break their wage structure in order to keep the 28-year-old in North London as it has been reported that his wage demands exceed what the club’s highest earners currently make.

With speculation that Alderweireld could be sold this summer, the Tottenham fans made their desire clear on Twitter after the player’s tweet, urging him to stay and sign a new contract.

The defender is currently on the sidelines with a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for a number of months, with the centre-half seemingly set to miss the upcoming Champions League clash against Juventus.

Securing Alderweireld’s future and having a key man commit to the club would be a massive boost for Tottenham and avoid a summer-long media frenzy over his potential exit.

With Daniel Levy surely needing to break Spurs’ wage structure to tie down Harry Kane to a new deal, meeting Alderweireld’s demands should also be a priority – the club’s supporters clearly agree.

  1. Spurs are in a VERY good position to win the FA cup. A win against Swansea will mean that Spurs will be at this season’s home ground for the semifinal and final – a huge advantage. It also helps that the best team in the land is no longer in the competition!
