Ange Postecoglou yet to hold talks as Tottenham future remains unclear

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he is still in the dark about his future at Tottenham Hotspur despite leading the club to Europa League glory.

The Australian manager confirmed he has not spoken to chairman Daniel Levy or the club’s board, leaving uncertainty over whether he will remain in charge next season.

Postecoglou has overseen a historically awful Premier League campaign, with Spurs sitting 17th in the table heading into the final round.

Despite domestic struggles, a gritty 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final, courtesy of a scrappy Brennan Johnson goal and a goal-line clearance from Micky van de Ven, finally gave the fans something to cheer about.

It has also improved Posteccoglou’s standing, but whether that’s enough to save his job remains to be seen.

During the club’s trophy parade, Postecoglou hinted that he would remain at Spurs, saying, “In all the best television series, season three is better than season two.”

But he has since rowed back on those comments.

“I should have thought about it a bit more because as somebody rightly pointed out, sometimes they kill off the main character,” he said (via Football London).

“I could be in strife there. I said even before the game – I really believe we’re just building something, and a significant win accelerates that.

“I really believe that is the case, and I am not going to put a limit on what we can achieve.

“I certainly believe it’s exciting the possibilities of next year knowing I’ve got a group of players now and staff and a club that knows how to win and wants more of it.”

When asked if he’d considered his future beyond this season, Postecoglou was clear: “I haven’t given it a lot of thought.

“I refuse to be distracted by anything in terms of the opportunity that was before us, and since the game, I just wanted to take the opportunity also to enjoy that as well.

“I assume at some point somebody will tell me something. If not, I’m just gonna roll up next year and be a bit like Costanza from Seinfeld. I’ll just sit in the desk and get on with my job.”

The win in Bilbao ended Spurs’ 17-year wait for silverware. They’ll now switch their attention to the 2024/25 curtain-dropper against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
