Besiktas have submitted a loan offer to Tottenham Hotspur for England midfielder Conor Gallagher, testing Spurs’ resolve just months after his big-money move to North London.
According to Turkish outlet Sozcu, newly appointed Besiktas manager Vincenzo Italiano has identified the 26-year-old as his top priority to anchor the Black Eagles’ midfield.
In response, the Super Lig giants have put forward a season-long loan proposal designed to give Gallagher a leading role in Istanbul as they aim to win a 17th domestic crown.
Gallagher arrived at Tottenham in January 2026 in a €40 million transfer from Atletico Madrid, signing until June 2029.
Brought in to inject energy and dynamism, the former Chelsea star made 16 Premier League appearances during the second half of last season.
However, despite providing valuable depth and work rate, Gallagher’s immediate starting prospects in North London have grown increasingly uncertain.
With Tottenham recently spending heavily on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, competition in central midfield has intensified. As a result, Gallagher faces a battle for consistent minutes ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Recognising this opportunity, Besiktas are aiming to capitalise. The Turkish side are offering a guaranteed starting role and a prominent platform in European competition.
Italiano views Gallagher’s relentless work ethic, box-to-box drive, and defensive durability as qualities to elevate his midfield.
Despite Besiktas pushing hard to complete a deal, Tottenham are unlikely to sanction a straight loan after bringing the England international back to the Premier League only six months ago.
Besiktas will likely have to add a mandatory purchase clause or a substantial loan fee to strengthen their chances of getting a deal done.
Whether Gallagher opts for a fresh challenge in Turkey or stays to fight for his place in North London will largely depend on Tottenham’s willingness to approve a temporary exit.
