Chris Sutton has predicted how the match between Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur and Arne Slot’s Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will pan out.
Tottenham will take on Liverpool at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
While Spurs are aiming to finish in the top four, Liverpool are looking to become the champions of England in Slot’s first season in charge of the Merseyside club.
Former Chelsea striker and BBC Sport pundit Sutton has backed Liverpool to beat Tottenham 3-2 in North London this weekend.
Interestingly, Tottenham and Liverpool will face each other in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup this season as well.
While Spurs edged past Manchester United in the quarter-finals on Thursday, Liverpool got the better of Southampton on Wednesday.
Chris Sutton predicts Tottenham Hotspur to lose
Sutton wrote on BBC Sport: “While I think Tottenham will get some joy because it is going to be action packed, Liverpool will not lie down and I fancy them to come out on top.
“How Spurs deal with Mohamed Salah on the counter-attack is going to be key, but I cannot see them stopping him completely.
“People might look at Liverpool’s draw with Fulham last weekend and think it was not a great result for Arne Slot’s side but I was there and, honestly, the way they played with 10 men was incredible. They looked like they were the team with the extra man.
“Sutton’s prediction: 2-3.”
View: Don’t write off Tottenham’s chances
The way Tottenham almost collapsed in the second half against United on Thursday evening will have concerned the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful.
Spurs were cruising at 3-0 and then conceded two goals. We also saw how Tottenham lost 4-3 to Chelsea after taking a two-nil lead.
Liverpool are a better team than Spurs and are at the top of the Premier League table, but the North London club have shown many times that they are not afraid to go full throttle even against the best sides.
While Spurs need to be tighter at the back, they are scoring goals for fun. Postecoglou’s side put five past Southampton in the Premier League last weekend before scoring four against United on Thursday.
Playing at home will also give Tottenham an advantage. While Liverpool will be considered favourites by many, Spurs have what it takes to pick up all three points from the game.
With striker Dominic Solanke scoring twice against United, Tottenham will fancy their chances of finding the back of the net against Liverpool.
