Dier’s new contract more good news for Tottenham

Following the excellent news that Christian Eriksen has extended his contact with Tottenham, midfield lynchpin Eric Dier has followed suit with a new deal to keep him in North London until 2021.

The 22-year-old has been transformed since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, taking to the task of being thrust into midfield with aplomb.

A key reason for Spurs’ success last season, Dier has become a regular for England also and represents a critical presence for the North London club.

Despite the summer emergence of Victor Wanyama, the former Sporting Lisbon youngster remains an essential member of the starting XI with his poise and physical presence important in the style of play Pochettino wants to play.

Here are Dier’s comments after signing the improved deal, in news that will have Tottenham fans rejoicing.

“It’s been an unbelievable two years, from that first interview to now, the change has been amazing and I’m so happy to continue on this journey,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m really looking forward to the future and that’s what makes it so easy to want to stay here – the fantastic manager we have, the great club, the fans, all the infrastructure we have, the new stadium being built – it’s all really exciting and I want to grow with the Club at the same pace.”

Pochettino’s influence at Spurs is all the more apparent as a host of our best players commit to the club – all speak of the Argentine’s role in their decision.

The next step will be improving contracts for the likes of Kyle Walker and Harry Kane, after talk in the press recently that has stated negotiations have begun.
