England international Djed Spence has landed in Italy to complete a €35 million move from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Sky Italia.
The 26-year-old full-back arrived at Milan Linate Airport late Thursday to a warm reception from media and Nerazzurri supporters.
After initial tests at the Humanitas Clinic in Rozzano and further examinations at the CONI facility, Spence will head to Inter’s Viale della Liberazione headquarters, where he is set to sign a five-year contract until June 2031 worth around €3m per season.
Negotiations between Tottenham and Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio reached a breakthrough on Wednesday after two weeks of talks.
The agreement includes an initial guaranteed fee of €31.5m, plus €3.5m in add-ons. While some may view the fee as modest in today’s market, Spurs have turned a profit on the £20m spent to sign Spence from Middlesbrough in 2022.
Inter head coach Cristian Chivu identified Spence as his top wing-back target following Denzel Dumfries’ summer move to Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old’s integration should be seamless given his prior Serie A experience. During a six-month loan at Genoa in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, the defender made 16 league appearances.
Spence’s stock soared after a breakout 2026 World Cup with England, where he played a key role in the Three Lions’ run to a bronze medal.
With Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi favouring Pedro Porro on the right and new signing Andy Robertson competing with Destiny Udogie on the left, Spence realised his long-term future was away from north London.
Once medical protocols are complete and paperwork is finalised, Spence will immediately join Chivu’s squad for final pre-season preparations ahead of Inter’s Serie A opener against Monza.
