€35m player could be perfect for Tottenham in new transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing Torino centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno during the summer transfer window, according to Calciomercato reporter Francesco Guerrieri.

The north Londoners are likely to invest in a new central defender this summer and have already been linked with a couple of names, including Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

It is now reported that Spurs are keen on securing the signature of Buongiorno from Torino but will have to compete with the likes of AC Milan and Napoli.

The Serie A side will not stand in Buongiorno’s way if a suitable proposal arrives this summer, but it’ll take a fee of at least €35 million for them to sanction a sale.

Buongiorno would be a decent cost-effective signing

The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for Torino this season, consistently playing a key role in the club’s push for a place in Europe.

The left-footed centre-back has been in impressive form thus far and is versatile enough to cover at left-back when required.

Buongiorno has notched three goals and an assist in 25 Serie A games. In addition to being a threat in the final third, the Italian is also a rock-solid cover in defence, keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets thus far.

The Italy international has also won 56% of his duels alongside 2.4 interceptions, 2.5 tackles, 4.4 recoveries, and 4.3 clearances per outing.

Torino have slapped a €35m asking price on their academy graduate, but if he maintains his momentum, they could increase their demands at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, for such a fee, landing Buongiorno’s signature would be a huge bargain in the transfer market.

Buongiorno would provide solid cover for Micky van de Ven, who has suffered his fair share of injury problems this season.

It wouldn’t be the first time Spurs are raiding the Italian top flight for defensive reinforcement, having signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January.
