Fabio Paratici set to keep Tottenham role after accepting suspended prison sentence

Fabio Paratici will continue in his role as a consultant to Tottenham Hotspur after accepting a suspended prison sentence in connection with the long-running Juventus financial investigation.

According to The Telegraph, the Italian football executive reached a settlement with prosecutors over the “Plusvalenza” case about alleged accounting irregularities in player transfers at Juventus.

As part of the agreement, Paratici accepted an 18-month suspended prison sentence. The settlement agreement doesn’t involve any admission of guilt or liability.

Paratici served as Juventus’ sporting director before joining Tottenham in 2021 and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing since the investigation started.

He was not a board member at Juventus and was not responsible for the books, but prosecutors argued that his involvement in transfers helped to cover up some of the club’s financial losses.

Paratici resigned as Tottenham’s managing director of football in April 2023 after receiving a global ban from football-related activities.

That ban expired in July, and since then, he has taken up a consultancy role at Spurs. His role hasn’t changed throughout the saga, and Tottenham have not commented on the settlement agreement.

Reports claim that Paratici only agreed to settle and accept the suspended sentence to bring the matter to a close and allow him to focus on his career.

He was desperate to move on from the controversy which rocked Italian football in 2021.

It remains to be seen if Paratici could be reinstated in a full-time role at Tottenham, especially after the recent departure of long-serving chairman Daniel Levy.

Levy was the one who brought Paratici to Tottenham, although his shocking exit doesn’t seem to have affected Paratici’s role at the club.

The Italian executive reportedly has a strong working relationship with new chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and technical director Johan Lange, which could help decide his future at Tottenham.

For now, the 53-year-old will continue to provide consultancy services to Tottenham, playing an influential role behind the scenes as the club prepares to challenge on multiple fronts this season.
