Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has pulled no punches over his thoughts about the squad at his disposal – it is too big.
Spurs have looked to bring in quality to help the Portuguese trainer achieve success, with the likes of Joe Hart, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale added to the Lilywhites contingent.
However, with the transfer window closing on Monday night at 11pm, there is a chance Tottenham will offload some fringe men – here are five on the chopping block.
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Surplus to requirements at Tottenham and not given a squad number despite the side lacking defensive cover, the youth-team graduate finally looks set to depart North London.
The United States international has done well on loan at various Football League clubs – a cut-price deal late in the window is a possibility.
Danny Rose
Once an integral member of the Tottenham side, the long-serving left-back’s tenure at the club is now starting to drag on.
A free transfer to another team would be a good move to get the former England international off the wage bill and benefit all parties.
Serge Aurier
Doherty’s arrival has pushed Aurier into the shadows at Tottenham and talk of an exit has persisted all summer long.
With chances in the first-team to be limited and Japhet Tanganga able to cover at right-back, Spurs should try to recoup a fee for the African wideman before the window closes.
Dele Alli
Sensationally sidelined by Mourinho in recent weeks, the prodigious Spurs talent’s chances of playing will be further minimised when Bale is fit and available.
While time is running out, there is certainly a feeling that Tottenham would accept a decent offer for Alli, while a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain has also been touted.
Jack Clarke
With the sheer amount of attacking talent in the Tottenham ranks, the chance of Clarke featuring this season is remote.
Signed for a considerable fee, Spurs will be keen for the former Leeds winger to get regular football in the Championship – a loan exit is likely.
