Harry Kane: “We must continue the pace”

Harry Kane has told his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates they need to prove they are ready to keep pace with Chelsea throughout the season, if they are to challenge for the title.

The current league leaders restored their 10-point gap between them and the rest of the chasing pack with a 2-1 victory against London rivals West Ham United on Monday night.

Kane has told of how he wants his fellow players to show to everyone that they are capable of finishing the campaign strongly, unlike last season.

Spurs finished third in the league last year, despite being eventual-champions Leicester City’s closest rivals for much of the competition, and behind Arsenal, something the club’s fans won’t want to be reminded about.

“We’ve got to concentrate on ourselves, build a gap on the teams around us and if Chelsea drop points then great and if they don’t then we’ll be second or third,” the 23-year-old is quoted as saying by the Belfast Telegraph.

“We were disappointed last year, as we all know. We are in a good position now, trying to catch Chelsea, but it’s important we build a gap between the teams around us as well and with Man United and Arsenal dropping points it was important we capitalise.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be hoping that Antonio Conte’s men drop points along the way, with an arguably harder fixture list in the coming months, whilst still being able to capitalise on their own matches.

Tottenham dominated their match against Everton, with a 3-2 victory, which made the Toffees sound better than they were in truth.

Kane added two more goals to his tally in the game, taking his overall total to 19 for the season, currently making him the top scorer in the league.
