A new centre forward to complement Harry Kane in the final third is expected to be a summer transfer priority for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with a host of names linked with the North London outfit.
Kevin Gameiro has been touted as a possible addition in recent days, with the Spanish press stating that Mauricio Pochettino’s men want to bring the France international to England.
On first sight the France international looks like an excellent option.
Versatility, ability with the ball at his feet, a turn of pace and a solid record of goals for Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain make Gameiro a player that would be welcomed to most Premier League sides.
However, Tottenham fans should start to ignore speculation linking the club with the Frenchman following the latest news around his employer.
Atletico’s transfer ban has been upheld this week and as such Diego Simeone’s men would not be able to sign a replacement even if they opted to offload Gameiro to Spurs.
While the 30-year-old is not guaranteed a starting berth at Atletico, there will be no new faces to push him further down the pecking order and the Spaniards will surely not want to sell him given that they will not be able to bolster their ranks.
