Giovani Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be nearing its end, with the club desperate to offload the Argentine midfielder this summer.
According to La Repubblica, Serie A clubs view Lo Celso as a viable opportunity, but Spurs have yet to receive an official bid due to the player’s lofty wage demands.
Lo Celso’s journey with Spurs began in 2019 with an initial loan spell, which ultimately led to a permanent transfer in a deal worth £27 million the following year.
However, he has struggled to assert himself in the first team under several managers and is one of several players Spurs are keen to offload this summer.
While Italian clubs are circling, Lo Celso’s wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block. Lazio are believed to be interested in the midfielder, but they’re hesitant to meet his financial expectations.
The 28-year-old made 24 appearances across all competitions last season, chipping in with two goals and two assists.
Lo Celso doesn’t feature in Spurs’ plans for the future. The club will consider any offers for the Copa America winner, who is valued at roughly £13m on Transfermarkt.
Lo Celso has been linked to Aston Villa
Lo Celso has been linked with a move to Aston Villa as part of Tottenham’s plans to lure Jacob Ramsey to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs tabled a player-plus-cash deal worth £20m to sign Ramsey, with Lo Celso heading in the opposite direction, but it fell short of Villa’s valuation for their prized academy graduate.
The Argentine midfielder thrived under Unai Emery’s guidance at Villarreal, culminating in their 2020/21 Europa League triumph.
Lo Celso’s familiarity with Emery’s tactical approach is a selling point for Spurs, but it remains to be seen if the Spaniard will welcome the opportunity to reunite with the midfielder at Villa Park.
With Villa preparing for Champions League football, Emery could do with an experienced player who is familiar with his system.
