James Maddison closing in on Tottenham return, could be back in two weeks

Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a shocking battle to retain their Premier League status.

Sitting 18th in the Premier League table and two points away from safety, Tottenham find themselves in uncharted territory and will need all the help they can get.

The hierarchy may have used the final ace in their sleeve by bringing in Roberto De Zerbi to save the day, but the Italian kicked off his tenure with a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.

He has even employed a different approach in his quest to pull Tottenham out of the drop zone by treating his players and staff to a lavish team-bonding meal.

However, Tottenham will need more than that to survive relegation to the Championship.

Despite the ongoing chaos, Tottenham fans have finally been given a reason to cheer with forgotten star James Maddison spotted in training.

The 29-year-old maestro is reportedly around two weeks away from first-team action, meaning he could still feature for Tottenham before the end of the season.

Maddison is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which has kept him away from action for nearly nine months.

However, with the former Leicester City star stepping up his recovery, Tottenham are hoping he can be available for their Premier League trip to Aston Villa on May 2.

Maddison was considered Tottenham’s creative fulcrum until his unfortunate injury, so his potential return would be a massive boost for their survival hopes.

Maddison is better off taking the summer to fully heal

While Spurs could do with Maddison’s creative spark in midfield, the England international may be better off taking the summer to fully recover before jumping back on the wagon.

Even if he passes a fitness test that green-lights his return, it’ll be in Maddison’s best interest to sit out the rest of the season and see how the summer plays out.

Maddison’s injury record could force Tottenham to consider cashing in, especially if they’re relegated.

The Englishman hasn’t taken part in a competitive game since August 3, 2025. If he avoids a relapse this summer, he could still be in demand despite his injury woes.
