Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Jan Vertonghen could make his return from injury against Fulham on Sunday.
The Belgium defender has been out with ankle ligament damage after picking up the problem in Spurs’ 4-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
Vertonghen has missed Tottenham’s last five games, however he is pushing for a place in the squad for the trip to Craven Cottage for the FA Cup clash.
“Jan Vertonghen is very well and maybe Sunday he’ll be ready to make the starting eleven or be on the bench,” Pochettino told the London Evening Standard.
Spurs have looked weak at the back without the 29-year-old, which was highlighted by a 2-0 defeat away at Liverpool on Saturday evening.
The Reds exploited Tottenham’s defence with ease on many occasions and the return of Vertonghen will provide a boost for north-London side.
Spurs are the favourites in the FA Cup fixture with Slavisa Jokanovic’s men, despite losing at Gent on Thursday night, with Fulham sat eight in the Championship table.
