Joel Veltman speaks out about reported Tottenham interest

Reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Joel Veltman has spoken out about rumours linking him with the North London club – but stated he is keeping his feet on the ground.

As Spurs look for potential recruits in the transfer window, the Ajax enforcer has been touted in the press as a possible addition before next season.

Tottenham have a history of signing players from Ajax, with Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen joining the Premier League side from the Amsterdam club and Toby Alderweireld having played for both sides.

Veltman has addressed the speculation over his future and spoken out about the reported interested that Spurs have in him.

“I have spoken with my agent, but he is unaware of any interest from Tottenham,” the Ajax star told Voetbal International.

“Vincent Janssen was joking that we will become team-mates, but there is nothing to it as of yet.

“I have one year left on my current contract, so normally I will either renew or be sold. That is only logical. There will be clarity after my holiday. But a transfer is a bigger option than before.”

With Mauricio Pochettino fielding a side with three at the back on plenty of occasions last season, there is certainly scope for Tottenham to add another central defender to their ranks this summer.

Kevin Wimmer is being tipped to leave Spurs and as such a move for Veltman could well be a like-for-like replacement.

Pochettino would surely admire the Dutch defender’s versatility while with his contract running down in Holland it could be a good time for Tottenham to strike.
