Tottenham forward Mathys Tel showed a glimpse of what he is capable of by scoring a stunning free-kick to hand his side the lead against Sydney.
Having been given the nod to start in attack alongside Richarlison and Manor Solomon, Tel proved to be a constant thorn in Sydney’s flesh, although his telling moment came just shy of the half-hour mark.
Solomon was abruptly felled on the edge of the penalty box following a sharp sequence of passing outside the Sydney penalty area.
Standing over the ball, Tel took full responsibility for the set-piece and curled a beauty into the top corner.
The Frenchman endured a rough season last time out and will be hoping for an improved 2026/27 campaign if he remains in North London.
Tel has been linked with a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray as Spurs look to reshuffle their attacking options, with a move for Manchester City’s Savinho currently being worked on.
However, a strong impression in pre-season could make a strong case for Tottenham keeping hold of Tel, as his talent remains unquestionable regardless of how inconsistently he shows it.
Currently 1-0 up at the interval, Spurs are aiming to make it three wins from as many friendly outings before taking on London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
