Media rips into ‘passenger’ Brennan Johnson after 4/10 display in Tottenham win v Bodo/Glimt

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt in Norway to book their place in the final of the Europa League, where they will face Manchester United.

Spurs took a 3-1 lead from North London and added two goals to it to book a date with destiny (May 21) at San Mames.

Tottenham put in a professional performance, with Dominic Solanke steering in the opener in the 63rd minute before Pedro Porro netted a cross cum shot six minutes later.

However, while most Tottenham players looked good yesterday, some managed to worry the fans with their performance.

Brennan Johnson has been struggling over the past weeks. He has bagged 17 goals and seven assists in 48 appearances for Tottenham this season, but his form is patchy.

The Tottenham attacker looked off the boil against Bodo/Glimt and struggled to get involved.

Johnson completed only four of his attempted 10 passes (40%) and failed with his one cross and four long passes attempted.

He also didn’t complete his one dribble and lost possession eight times. Spurs Web gave him a 4/10 rating and labelled him “A passenger during the match.”

Football London wasn’t milder with their report. They said: “Defensively worked hard, picking up a first-half yellow card, but didn’t offer much at the other end.”

The Evening Standard claimed he was “Noticeably more defensive than usual and barely had a meaningful touch in attacking areas.”

Johnson must find his groove for Spurs ahead of the final – View

With James Maddison ruled out of the final through injury, Tottenham will need every ounce of attacking sharpness they can muster when they face Man United in Bilbao.

That makes Johnson’s current form a particular worry. Against Bodo/Glimt, his lack of impact was glaring.

If Spurs are to have any chance of unlocking a United side that has proven stubborn in knockout football, they will need Johnson to rediscover his verve and confidence.

Whether it’s a matter of fatigue or a dip in confidence, Johnson must raise his game for the showpiece in Bilbao, where Tottenham’s dreams of silverware and redemption are on the line.
