Tottenham Hotspur’s Nabil Bentaleb is on the verge of triggering a compulsory purchase clause at Schalke 04, according to Sky Sports.
It is understood that the fee would be around £16m should he make his expected 20th appearance this weekend against FC Köln.
The 22-year-old is currently on a season-long loan in Germany having been with his parent club Spurs since 2013.
It is believed the Algeria international will most likely settle permanently away from White Hart Lane as he failed to impress manager Mauricio Pochettino, netting just one goal in 66 appearances for the club.
On the contrary, Bentaleb has gained valuable game time under Markus Weinzierl.
Although the midfielder had a slow start in getting use to the pace of the Bundesliga, he has already provided the team with four goals and four assists.
Schalke are presently 11th in the table with just one point behind 10th place Borussia Monchengladbach.
Most Spurs fans will be glad to see the back of Bentaleb, with the African making a number of controversial comments about the Premier League club’s supporters last year.
