Opinion: Credit where it’s due – divisive Tottenham man deserves credit

Tottenham Hotspur fans were sent into delirium on Saturday, with the club confirming the signing of Sergio Reguilon and the loan return of Gareth Bale for the rest of the season.

After the Premier League opening day defeat to Everton, the need for reinforcements was crystal clear and the duo’s arrival will surely raise spirits in the Spurs squad.

When transfer rumours over Bale’s potential return emerged earlier in the window, I was very sceptical and wrote a piece telling Tottenham fans not to get their hopes up.

The club has been involved in plenty of near misses when it comes to signing top players and the Spurs hierarchy’s recent stance has been to be frugal in the market.

Credit where it is due – well done Daniel Levy.

The Tottenham chairman is a divisive character who splits opinions and can frustrate the supporters at times with his cautious financial approach.

However, with plenty of reputable sources suggesting it was Levy that drove this double deal from day one, he surely will have won over plenty of the Spurs fans.

It will be great to see Bale back in a Tottenham shirt and attacking Premier League defences, while Reguilon is an exciting addition that represents an upgrade on Ben Davies.
