Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed on their official website that young defender Juan Foyth has signed a new contract at the club and will now spend the 2020-21 season on loan at Villarreal.
The Argentina international has not been given much of an opportunity to impress at Spurs since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino.
There was plenty of speculation earlier in the transfer window that Tottenham could opt to sell Foyth – something I thought the club could regret.
Spurs fans have been critical of the South American at times as he has made high-profile mistakes, but the defender has also shown a lot of attributes that could make him a star in the future.
Here’s hoping that regular football in Spain will help Foyth mature and he returns to Tottenham as a better player.
I firmly believe that the Argentine international has a bright future in the game and can play an important for Spurs in upcoming seasons.
As such, today’s news is a good move by Tottenham, with all parties benefiting from the arrangement.
