Opinion: If Tottenham transfer report true, Mourinho will be over the moon

Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing a new centre forward next week, according to Football Insider, in a report that will please manager Jose Mourinho if true.

Spurs have been short of credible back-up striker options to Harry Kane in recent years and the need to recruit one has become all the more pertinent after the news that the Lilywhites hero has been forced to quarantine after returning from a family holiday to the Bahamas.

Tottenham have been linked with plenty of strikers this summer, as per usual, but it remains to be seen just who will end up at the North London club, with Callum Wilson and Arkadiusz Milik mentioned in the latest report as players the club have contacted.

With the new Premier League season set to start in three weeks’ time, Mourinho will hope to hit the ground running and have the majority of Spurs’ transfer business concluded before the action resumes.

Tottenham have already landed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart this summer but the fans are desperate for more new faces to arrive sot he club can fight for major honours in 2020-21.

Kane will be fit to start the season but the fact that he will miss two weeks of team training is a setback.

As such, bringing in a new striker next week would provide Tottenham a Plan B for the Premier League opener against Everton, give the new man time to adapt to the new environment during pre-season and get action in friendly fixtures under his belt.
