Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has praised hot-and-cold midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, stating the France international can be ‘really phenomenal’ if continues on his current trajectory.
Spurs broke the bank last summer to bring the all-action playmaker from Lyon, but the 23-year-old had a disappointing first season in a Lilywhites shirt.
However, this season the Tottenham fans are starting to get glimpses of why Ndomeble is the club’s record signing – with Mourinho full of praise for the Frenchman.
“Tanguy is playing amazing,” the Spurs boss told reporters, as per Football London.
“I am very, very happy. You can feel the happiness. Physically he has to be better, he will be better. But if you compare this Tanguy with last season’s Tanguy, there is no point in comparing.
“But he can get better, he can be really phenomenal.”
Looking at it objectively, Mourinho deserves praise for the way he has handled Ndombele since taking over at Tottenham.
While the public criticism of the Spurs man last season may have divided opinions, the manager has clearly worked hard on getting the Frenchman’s mentality right ahead of 2020-21.
The glimpses of Ndombele’s ability while on the ball in recent games should excite Tottenham fans and if the 23-year-old can improve his conditioning, he can be a major asset for the club in a three-man midfield.
Mourinho’s guidance has been central to this improvement – here’s hoping it continues and Spurs have a new midfield general on their hands before long.
