Tottenham Hotspur manger Jose Mourinho has a decision to make over the future of rising star Ryan Sessegnon, with the wideman’s role at the club in 2020-21 unclear.
Spurs landed the prodigious talent from Fulham last summer and the England under-21 man was expected to be a big hit in North London.
Injuries and a lack of opportunities have stifled Sessegnon’s time at Tottenham, with only 12 Premier League appearances for the 20-year-old last season.
The latest Guardian report suggests that Ajax are keen to land the Spurs talent on loan for the 2020-21 season, with Mourinho yet to decide on the proposal.
It is my assertion that despite Sessegnon having a lot to learn, Tottenham should reject the approach from the Dutch side and trust the young star in the first team.
One of the major issues the former Fulham man has is over whether he is best suited as a left-back or as a winger, while he can also feature as a wing-back if Mourinho opts for a three-man defence.
In the 2018-19 campaign, a teenage Sessegnon lit up the Championship and played a major role in firing Fulham to promotion to the top flight.
Unleashing the Tottenham man’s pace and power could well see the club possess a Gareth Bale-like attacking weapon – but Sessegnon needs to be given time and opportunities to reach his potential.
While time on loan at Ajax could be beneficial for Sessegnon, Mourinho needs to trust the young Englishman and give a chance to shine in 2020-21.
