Opinion: The Tottenham starting XI to beat Everton – no Sissoko or Bergwijn

Tottenham Hotspur fans will hope for a positive start to the new Premier League season on Sunday, with a clash against Everton at home first up for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Spurs have released their team news, with Japhet Tanganga ruled out and Giovani Lo Celso a doubt due to a hamstring strain.

The Argentine’s potential absence is a blow, with the Tottenham playmaker one of the first names on the teamsheet if fit and available.

Spurs have added the likes of Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to their squad this summer and the duo are surely set to start against Everton and make their Lilywhite debuts.

Tottenham’s midfield dynamic will be interesting to see, with Lo Celso’s possible absence giving Mourinho a tough decision to make.

Many Spurs fans will want favourite Moussa Sissoko to feature in the boiler room alongside Hojbjerg, but Harry Winks may well get the nod.

Tanguy Ndombele’s role remains to be seen – it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Mourinho hands him a start.

In attack, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Harry Kane are almost guaranteed to start, while I’m tipping Lucas Moura to get the nod over Steven Bergwijn.

Tottenham predicted starting XI vs Everton (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Doherty, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies; Hojbjerg, Winks; Lucas, Alli, Son; Kane.
