While most Tottenham Hotspur fans will be thinking ahead to the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City on Wednesday night, Saturday’s game against Huddersfield Town should not be overlooked.
Although the European nights are football on the biggest stage, Spurs need to ensure they finish in the top four this season to have more elite football next term.
Huddersfield have been awful this season and most people would expect Tottenham to wipe the floor with the already relegated outfit at the club’s new stadium.
However, with fixture congestion taking its toll and six players unavailable through injury, Mauricio Pochettino will need to be shrewd in his team selection against the Terriers.
Tottenham fans will hope that the Argentine can find the right balance between resting key men and finding three points to keep pressure on Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Harry Kane is obvious out and Dele Alli will surely not be risked as his participation against City hangs in the balance.
Son Heung-min is key at the minute and Tottenham will again hopefully wrap him in cotton wool ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium.
As such, Pochettino’s squad will be pushed to the limit and fringe players will need to play their part in Spurs’ recent momentum continuing.
Here’s my pick for Saturday’s starting XI, hoping it will be strong enough to beat Huddersfield while keeping key players in reserve ahead of Wednesday night.
Predicted Tottenham starting XI vs Huddersfield (3-4-2-1): Lloris; Foyth, Sanchez, Alderweireld; Davies; Wanyama, Skipp, Walker-Peters; Eriksen, Moura; Llorente
