Opinion: Time for Tottenham to salvage some pride; here’s how

Tottenham Hotspur have had a 2020-21 season to forget, with the Premier League campaign finishing with a trip to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs fans had high hopes that Jose Mourinho’s pedigree of winning silverware could end the club’s trophy drought this term, but after a bright start to the season, things quickly started to deteriorate.

Tottenham face a Leicester side that have won their first-ever FA Cup this term, while Brendan Rodgers’ men are also fighting to secure Champions League football.

Spurs supporters will look at Sunday’s opponents with a tint of envy, with the Foxes playing expansive football, while getting results both on and off the pitch.

Despite this, Tottenham can still salvage some pride in Ryan Mason’s final game in charge, with the potential to qualify for the Europa League still available.

However, more importantly, Spurs precariously sit only a point ahead of cross-town rivals Arsenal but can finish above them once more with victory at the King Power Stadium.

While both North London sides have had seasons to forget, finishing ahead of Arsenal would give the Tottenham fans a rare reason for celebration and maintain local bragging rights.

Defeat on Sunday could see Spurs slip to as low as ninth place, potentially falling below our rivals towards mid-table obscurity.

While just about everyone associated with Tottenham is ready for 2020-21 to be over, Mason and the players can salvage pride and avoid a campaign of complete disaster by beating Leicester this weekend.
