Opinion: Tottenham considering Eriksen loan deal should depend on one man

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a sensational move to re-sign former star Christian Eriksen from Inter Milan, with The Athletic stating that the Dane is available on loan this month.

The talented playmaker was a key man in the Mauricio Pochettino era at Spurs, with his creativity, pinpoint passing and spectacular goals making him a fans’ favourite.

However, as Eriksen agitated for a move away from Tottenham, many supporters lost interest in the Scandinavian; the midfielder’s last six months at the club were very underwhelming.

Looking at it realistically, if the chance to re-sign the Dane is there, Spurs should certainly consider it.

However, the fitness of Giovani Lo Celso should be a key consideration in any move for Eriksen, as the Argentine has the potential to be just as good and better than the Inter star was for Tottenham.

Lo Celso has been amazing for Spurs at times when fit and firing – the issue has been consistent injuries and a lack of momentum.

The South American is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring complaint, meaning a sole reliance on Tanguy Ndombele to provide the creative spark from midfield.

If Lo Celso is likely to be out for a prolonged period or if his current injury is viewed as recurrent or serious, signing Eriksen could be a shrewd stop-gap.

However, if the current Tottenham playmaker is back fit soon and raring to go, then Lo Celso and Ndombele provide more than enough midfield spark, meaning the re-signing of Eriksen is not needed.
