Opinion: Tottenham fans will hope latest La Liga transfer rumour is true

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be hoping that Forbes are correct in their latest transfer assertion – that the Lilywhites are ‘expected’ to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon.

Spurs are short of options in the full-back roles and left-back in particular appears like a potentially problem position.

While Ben Davies is expected to be first choice for Tottenham this season and is a solid campaigner, the Welsh defender is not exactly a player to excite the masses.

Danny Rose looks set to leave Spurs soon and Jan Vertonghen has already been allowed to leave the club as a legend.

As such, while Japhet Tanganga can fit in at left-back, Tottenham could certainly use a quality additional player in that position.

Reguilon fits the bill.

The 23-year-old Real Madrid man spent last season on loan at Sevilla and impressed, playing a key role in the club winning the Europa League and finishing fourth in La Liga to ensure Champions League football in 2020-21.

Tottenham fans would relish his front-foot approach, with Reguilon a modern-day full-back; good on the ball, full of running and with decent footballing intelligence.

The report suggests Spurs could face competition from Manchester United to land the Madrid man, but the 23-year-old is certainly a player that would be a solid addition to Jose Mourinho’s squad.
