Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Inter Milan enforcer Milan Skriniar, according to Gianluca Di Marzio – in a potential transfer that would massively improve the team’s defence.
Spurs have made a splash in the transfer window over the last week, landing Gareth Bale on loan and signing Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
While a back-up striker to provide support and competition to Harry Kane will be Tottenham’s next transfer priority, the capture of an extra defender would be a major asset to Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Spurs lost long-serving star Jan Vertonghen at the end of last season, while the signing of Reguilon and Matt Doherty this summer would suggest there is the possibility of reverting to a three-man central defence.
With Toby Alderweireld losing pace over the last 12-18 months, Eric Dier not convincing the Tottenham fans and Davinson Sanchez seemingly not having the full trust of Mourinho, a defensive leader would be an amazing capture.
Skriniar fits the bill in this regard, with the reported Spurs target an imposing physical player with good reading of the game and the ability to lead by example.
The 25-year-old Slovakia international has proven himself among Serie A’s best defenders and Tottenham would be signing someone that could slot straight into the team – and improve over time.
While hoping this deal gets done may be a stretch too far, the addition of Skriniar would complete what has been a very successful transfer window for Spurs.
