Opinion: Tottenham would be crazy to sell versatile star this summer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has admitted players could be sold before the transfer window closes, with The Sun stating Ryan Sessegnon could be on his way out of the club in the next few weeks.

Spurs are reportedly close to announcing the double signings of Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, with the fans excited by the big news.

However, with Tottenham’s first-team squad looking somewhat bloated, Mourinho stated after the win against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday night that there could be departures in the next few weeks.

The latest report suggests some of the men to leave Spurs could be Sessegnon, Danny Rose, Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga and Erik Lamela.

While Reguilon looks set to take up the Tottenham first-choice left-back role and Bale’s arrival means another option in attacking wide positions, selling Sessegnon does not seem like a wise move.

The 20-year-old had a slow start to life at Spurs after signing from Fulham last summer, with injuries blighting his first season in North London.

But, with Sessegnon having all the raw ingredients to become a superstar, he just needs regular football to aid his development and potentially become an important player for Tottenham.

Loaning the Spurs youngster out to facilitate this would make sense, but cashing in on the starlet without giving him a run in the team would be crazy.

Tottenham reportedly once were ready to sell a young wide player to Birmingham City and cut their losses, but opted against it – here’s hoping the club makes the right decision again this time in regards to Sessegnon.
