Paul Mitchell wants to sign Tottenham’s ‘new Harry Kane’ for current club

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Reo Griffiths is a transfer target for Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig, who now have former Spurs man Paul Mitchell in a head of recruitment role, according to ESPN.

The 17-year-old is a rising star in the North London club’s ranks and has netted 20 goals for the under-18 side so far this season.

ESPN label Griffiths as Tottenham’s ‘new Harry Kane’, such is the teenager’s potential and impressive track record in the club’s youth set-up.

Mitchell left Spurs in acrimonious circumstances and has now taken up a recruitment role at Leipzig, who have raided the English market recently to bring Everton’s Ademola Lookman to Germany on loan.

Tottenham have placed faith in their youth-academy graduates in recent years, with Mauricio Pochettino putting together one of the youngest teams in the Premier League.

Griffiths is being tipped as having a bright future at Spurs but surely has a number of years to complete in his development before being considered as an addition in the first-team squad.

There is certainly a risk Tottenham could lose the 17-year-old, given that he is yet to sign his first professional deal with the club.

However, surely Griffiths and his advisors will realise that there is no better team in the Premier League for young players to thrive than at Spurs.

With Pochettino at the helm ready to give rising stars their chance if they are good enough and world-class striker Kane to learn from as a role model, the Tottenham youngster would be crazy to leave North London any time soon.
