Pochettino confirms 17-year-old Tottenham starlet to feature in FA Cup

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that youngster Tashan Oakley-Boothe is set to play a role in this Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Newport County.

The 17-year-old is a rising star in the Spurs youth ranks and has shot to prominence after heroics in the England age-grade levels.

Tottenham boss Pochettino was asked about Oakley-Boothe’s potential involvement this weekend and the Argentine was full of praise for the teenager.

“Yes I think Tashan will be involved in the squad,” Football London quote the Spurs manager as saying.

“I was watching the first half of the U23s today and maybe we are going to pick some players from the U23s to travel tomorrow.”

Tottenham boss Pochettino will surely look to rest some of the club’s heavy-hitters for the clash against the League Two side and as such it will be an opportunity for fringe men to get a first-team outing.

Oakley-Boothe is someone that the Spurs fans will be desperate to see in competitive action, with the central midfielder tipped to follow the likes of Harry Kane and Harry Winks into the club’s first-team squad in the future.

Ironically, Tottenham could well have used the likes of Marcus Edwards and Cameron Carter-Vickers this weekend but the pair have been farmed out on loan to Norwich City and Ipswich Town respectively.

For Oakley-Boothe, the chance to play senior football will be the next step in his development and a positive showing against Newport will only increase the excitement among the Spurs fans about the club’s rising star.
