Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that the players will be assessed today after the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town, with concerns in the Spurs fan ranks after Mousa Dembele appeared to pick up a knock in the victory.
The hosts were dominant throughout in the win over the Terriers, which continues the side’s excellent recent run of form and increases the unbeaten streak to 17 matches in all competitions.
Attention now turns to Wednesday night’s bumper clash against Juventus in the Champions League, with Tottenham hoping to progress through to the quarter-finals.
However, Spurs fans await news on Dembele, who looked to be limping in the second half of the win over Huddersfield.
The Belgium international has been in imperious form of late and played a decisive role in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Juventus in Turin.
Dembele’s injury track record will not inspire huge confidence however and Spurs boss Pochettino has stated that he will be assessed along with the other players before Wednesday night’s showcase.
“We need to assess the players now,” Football London quote the Tottenham boss as saying.
“It’s difficult to tell you now if everyone will be ready against Juventus. We have a few days to assess the players and see if anything’s wrong. Now today, we don’t have the information to see if there’s any problems.”
Dembele was replaced by Moussa Sissoko in the 77th minute at Wembley on Saturday, but it was slightly baffling to see Pochettino leave the Belgian on the pitch for that long.
The Tottenham midfield lynchpin looked to be struggling for mobility long before he was substituted and with Spurs cruising, really should have been rested much earlier.
Dembele and Dier dominated the midfield encounters in Italy in the reverse fixture and as such the Tottenham fans will hope and pray the Belgian is ready for the midweek game at Wembley.
Agree… A lot of us were screaming to get Dembele taken off. He was clearly struggling.
There was no need to play Dembele AT ALL against Huddersfield. Wanyama or Winks would have sufficed. Poch has to learn the art of rotation.
