Tottenham Hotspur look likely to lose rising star Reo Griffiths this summer, with The Mirror stating that the young striker will move to a European club rather than extend terms in North London.
The teenager is highly rated at Spurs after his heroics in the club’s youth ranks, which included a four-goal haul against Arsenal at under-18 level last season.
However, Griffiths is yet to sign his first professional contract and as such the 18-year-old is free to leave Tottenham this summer as suitors circle.
The latest report suggests that the striker has already decided to leave Spurs and will reject the Premier League club’s attempts to get him to sign a contract.
This is certainly disappointing news for Tottenham fans, who have been treated to starlets graduating from the youth ranks and making it into the first team in recent years.
Griffiths looks like he has all the attributes to be a star of the future and Spurs may yet be kicking themselves if he turns out to be a top player.
The question must be why Mauricio Pochettino didn’t bring the 18-year-old on Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the United States – something that could have convinced the teenager that his future lay at the club.
With other teenagers in the travelling party, Griffiths’ exclusion looks slightly strange – and Spurs will now seemingly lose one of our brightest talents for a miserly tribunal fee.
