Pochettino provides injury update on two Tottenham first-team stars

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that both Eric Dier and Lucas Moura should be back in training at the start of the week after both were substituted in a 2-1 away win against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The England midfielder came off with cramp in the 88th minute and the Argentine coach has insisted that the Brazil winger has no problems, despite being spotted on the bench with a bag of ice on his groin.

“No, no they are ok,” Football London report the Tottenham manager as saying.

“Eric Dier was so tired. He felt in the end cramp, but Lucas nothing.

“I think it was very good competition today with a big squad. Massive competition between them and I’m going to rotate in the next few weeks, trying to give the possibility to all the players to play and be important.”

Both players are seen as key members of the Pochettino’s Tottenham squad and fans will be relieved to know that both are expected to be available for the next match against Fulham at Wembley on August 18.

Spurs homegrown player Luke Amos replaced Dier to make his Premier League debut for the club after featuring numerous times in pre-season for the Lilywhites.

However, for Tottenham to make a positive start to the new campaign, stamping out inconsistency will be key.

The fact that Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama are currently injured means Dier is a critical player, while Moura is covering for Son Heung-min – who will now be away with South Korea for a reasonable amount of time.

Tottenham will hope that three points against Fulham this weekend will set the tone for the campaign.
