Tottenham Hotspur gaffer Ange Postecoglou has admitted that persistent leaks from within the club are hampering his efforts to steady the ship this season.
Ahead of Tottenham versus Wolverhampton on Sunday, the Australian tactician spoke frankly about injury news repeatedly surfacing on social media before official announcements.
The latest leak came ahead of Thursday night’s 1-1 Europa League quarter-final draw against Eintracht Frankfurt when winger Wilson Odobert’s absence from the starting line-up was widely known hours before kick-off.
Postecoglou said (via The Guardian): “There is no doubt we’ve got a leak inside the club. Someone continues to leak out information, and they have all year. It doesn’t help us, especially on match days when the opposition gains an advantage.
Postecoglou confirmed that the club has narrowed down the source of the leaks and intends to address it internally: “I’ve got a fair idea where it’s coming from. We will deal with it.”
The tension around the club is mounting, with Spurs languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and on course for their lowest finish since 2007/08.
A relentless injury crisis has ravaged the squad, further compounding Postecoglou’s task and fuelling speculation over his long-term future.
The former Celtic boss came in to oversee a new era at Tottenham, but he needs a Europa League trophy to secure both silverware and, possibly, his job.
Postecoglou should be dismissed at the end of the season, even with a European trophy – View
Postecoglou’s recent Tottenham press conferences have been confrontational. He knows he is at the end of the road.
Spurs should not make the same mistake Manchester United made with Erik ten Hag. Postecoglou has to go, even if he wins a trophy.
The league table is a better reflection of Tottenham’s season than a one-off competition, and Spurs have been woeful. This team needs fresh ideas and a new leader.
