Tottenham Hotspur sealed their spot in the Europa League final with a composed 2-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt in Norway and set up a showdown against Manchester United.
Spurs carried a 3-1 advantage from the first leg in North London and added two more goals to secure their place in the May 21 final at San Mames.
Tottenham handled business effectively as they did against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany and claimed a 5-1 aggregate victory.
Despite the win, Spurs gaffer Ange Postecoglou was unhappy with a reporter during his post-match press conference after fielding a question that irked him.
A reporter asked (via talkSPORT): “Man United have constantly said that this competition will not save their season…would it save Tottenham’s season? Is it different for Tottenham?”
Postecoglou retorted: “I don’t care. What do I care what Man United think? Why is that relevant to me?
“Ask the Man United manager why he says that. Me? I have said all along that this is important.”
“You know better than me. You follow this club more than I have,” the Australian tactician continued. “What do you think a trophy would do for this club?
“The question answers itself. What is happening right now is people are fearing that it might actually happen.
“They are trying to tear it down and diminish it somehow by saying it has been a poor season, and try to compare us to Man United.”
Postecoglou should choose his battles more wisely – View
Postecoglou is passionate, but his combative demeanour in press conferences is beginning to wear thin.
The clash with the reporter in Norway was not an isolated incident. He is not interested in playing the media game, but in doing so, he has ironically become a recurring character.
The question posed to him about Man United was a clumsy attempt to stir the pot. But Postecoglou should not have given it life.
Rather than rising above the provocation, he showed irritation. He is too easily rattled.
That plays directly into the hands of journalists looking for soundbites, especially those who sense a vulnerable spot they can prod.
Postecoglou has put a target on his back. He can expect more of the same unless he reins in the anger. The media will not stop poking. It is up to him to stop flinching.
