Tottenham Hotspur are no longer interested in Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial and have made no progress on a deal for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, according to ESPN.
The North London club are yet to make any additions this summer, much to the frustration of many of the supporters, with the transfer window only having around two weeks left to run.
Tottenham have been linked heavily with Martial, who has made his desire to leave United clear over the course of the summer through his agent.
However, the fee needed to sign the France international would be considerable and the Red Devils are believed to be reluctant to sell to a Premier League title rival.
In reality, it seems unlikely that Martial will end up at Tottenham – which isn’t the worst thing in the world.
While he is clearly very gifted, Spurs have extended the contracts of Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela, while Lucas Moura will surely have more of a role to play in the team in 2018-19.
Tottenham’s interest in Grealish has dragged on over the course of the summer and the fact that nothing has happened in this regard is more frustrating.
With Villa suffering from financial worries and the fact he is a Championship player, Spurs should be able to manufacture a deal to bring the gifted youngster to North London.
While Tottenham have a sublime squad and will challenge again next season, the way Daniel Levy continues to leave his business until the last minute is annoying.
This rings true as Mauricio Pochettino has stated in the past that he would prefer Spurs to do their transfer business early, so he has the whole of pre-season to work with new players and get them up to the required fitness.
