Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur over the last week, has admitted that he would relish the chance to play in England.
Spurs are reportedly interested in the France international as it looks increasingly likely that Kyle Walker will move to Manchester City this summer.
Sidibe starred as Monaco stormed their way to the Champions League semi-finals in 2016-17, knocking out Tottenham along the way, and the Principality outfit also won the French top-flight title.
The 24-year-old has stated that moving to Spurs or one of the other top Premier League sides would appeal.
“It’s a league that attracts me, but there are a lot of French players who left early or at a time in their career that wasn’t necessarily the best, and they have disappeared a little,” Sidibe told L’Equipe.
“You have to leave at the right time and know if I have the ability to perform well there. The top five in England is attractive, but it’s very difficult even if I’m not afraid.
“It’s quite an unusual period with a year to go to the World Cup. There will be a time for thinking about things.
“It’s already started actually, even if right now I’m completely focused on France. I’m quite open, but I’m under contract with Monaco and it doesn’t worry me to do another season.
“My criteria is playing time, the environment for me to improve in and increase my chances of establishing myself long-term in the French national team.”
Sidibe’s acquisition would certainly be an exciting one and the Frenchman looks like a more-rounded option to replace Walker than fellow reported target Adam Smith.
With talk that City are closing in on a deal for the Spurs man, Tottenham should look to beat their rivals to the 24-year-old’s signature and offer him regular first-team football in England next season.
