Tottenham Hotspur strolled to a 4-0 win over Everton on Saturday evening, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min rightly hogging the headlines after the Spurs victory.
However, another Lilywhites man that put in an excellent display in the heart of midfield was Mousa Dembele.
The Belgium international was handed his first Tottenham start since the 5-2 win over Southampton on Boxing Day and put in a masterclass for the home side.
Dembele’s debilitating injury worries have limited the midfielder’s ability to play consistently for Spurs this season and there has even been talk in the press that the North London club could look to sell the former Fulham man in the summer.
In the win over Everton, the Belgian reminded the Tottenham faithful just how good he is, with the 30-year-old’s enviable blend of finesse on the ball, energy and aggression seeing him dominate the midfield encounters.
While Harry Winks has been coined as Dembele’s long-term replacement in the Spurs side, the England international still needs time to develop and is not as cultured or able as his older team-mate.
With Tottenham possessing ambitions of fighting for major silverware this season, getting Dembele back fit and firing – and fielding Victor Wanyama alongside him – will be critical in the club’s hopes of success.
