Richarlison named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison was named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week following his performance in the 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Thomas Frank’s side battled back from two goals down to earn a draw at the Amex Stadium, and Richarlison led the fight back for Spurs.

The hosts established a 2-0 lead just after half an hour, with Yankuba Minteh and Yasin Ayari getting on the score sheet.

Richarlison pulled Tottenham back into the game just before half-time, slotting home a wayward effort from Mohammed Kudus.

Tottenham finally levelled matters late on when Jan Paul van Hecke steered a cross from Kudus into his own net. Neither side could find a winner in the final few minutes of the game.

Richarlison was a nuisance to the Brighton backline and was rewarded for his attacking endeavours.

Despite having just 43 touches, he recorded two shots on target, attempted and completed two dribbles, won four out of seven ground duels, and two out of three aerial duels.

He did enough to catch Shearer’s eye, with the Premier League legend giving him high marks for his performance on the south coast.

“A constant thorn in the side for Brighton’s defence,” Shearer wrote. “He scored a crucial goal just before half-time to get Spurs back into the match as they earned an impressive point from 2-0 down.”

Richarlison in fine form

Richarlison enjoyed a fine start to the season. His goal against Brighton took his tally to three in the Premier League, having scored a brace in the 3-0 win against Burnley on opening day.

The Brazilian, who was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham during the summer, has helped Frank’s side pick up 10 points from their opening five games.

They sit third in the Premier League table, five points behind reigning champions and league leaders Liverpool and level on points with Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Tottenham host Doncaster Rovers in their next outing. They’ll welcome the League One side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday for an EFL Cup round three fixture.
