Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for Fulham teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon – and landing the left-back this summer would be an excellent piece of summer business.
The 17-year-old has been phenomenal in the Championship this season, with his marauding runs forward and defensive tenacity all the more impressive when you consider his age.
Tottenham are said to be fighting Liverpool and Manchester United for Sessegnon, with a fee of £15 million being touted in the media.
Although this would be a big outlay for a player so young, it would surely be money well spent.
Sessegnon has all the attributes to be a future star but more importantly for Spurs, he has all the attributes that Mauricio Pochettino asks for in transfer targets.
The Fulham star is versatile enough to play in a number of positions, is young and has potential to improve, is hardworking and wants to play attacking football.
There is no reason that Sessegnon could not follow in the footsteps of Dele Alli in coming from the Football League and starring for Tottenham.
Spurs are said to have missed out on signing Moussa Dembele from Fulham 18 months ago and now must regret it given the French forward’s exploits at Celtic.
Another Craven Cottage talent should not be allowed to slip through the net, while Sessegnon should be attracted to Pochettino’s exciting project in North London.
It does bare considering, however, that as talented as the teenager is, should Danny Rose leave the club this summer it would be unfair to ask the 17-year-old to automatically take him place in a Champions League side.
As such, regardless of whether Rose stays or goes, signing Sessegnon would be a positive move.
If the England international is sold by Spurs, landing another more-experienced player in the position, as well as the Fulham man, makes sense.
