Sacking Postecoglou would cost Tottenham £4 million

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy and the entire Spurs hierarchy must make a crucial decision this summer regarding manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian tactician ended the club’s 17-year wait for a trophy, but it was not enough to assuage an abysmal league campaign.

The North London club lost 22 of 38 Premier League games. Tottenham’s form since the infamous 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in November 2023 has been dreadful.

Over their last 66 matches, they have suffered 34 defeats and managed just 78 points.

Excluding the six relegated sides from the past two seasons, that ranks as the third-worst record in the Premier League during that span, better only than Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Levy and the hierarchy must consider the ramifications of dismissing Postecoglou on squad morale, the club and its finances.

According to The Telegraph, it would cost Tottenham only £4 million to dismiss Postecoglou.

Spurs would also need to settle the 59-year-old his £2 million bonus for winning a trophy and guiding Tottenham into the UEFA Champions League.

Postecoglou still has two years remaining on his Tottenham contract, with the terms of any potential early exit reportedly agreed upon at the time of his appointment two years ago.

He has now returned to England from holiday and will receive clarity on his future in the coming days.

The case for dismissing Postecoglou – View

While it might look counterproductive to part ways with Postecoglou, they have been dreadful in the league for some time.

Winning the Europa League should follow a respectable domestic finish.

Tottenham finished in 17th place, just above the relegation zone. That is a sackable offence, and it is no surprise that Levy is still contemplating wielding the axe.

This team has no business in the second half of the table, and the blame lies at the feet of the manager.

Injuries played their part, but even with a fully fit squad, Spurs were weak, incohesive, and lacking resolve.

Now, we wait for the decision of the top brass, but if they decide to let Postecoglou go, it should be understandable.
