Scott Parker returns as coach – shrewd move by Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on their official website on Friday that former player Scott Parker has returned to North London, with the 36-year-old to become Spurs’ under-18 coach and a club ambassador.

The 18-times capped England international played for the Lilywhites from 2011-13, making 50 Premier League appearances for the White Hart Lane side and embodying the club’s progression in that period.

Parker played with his heart on his sleeve, with his never-say-die attitude backed up with a ferocious will to win.

Having retired while on Fulham’s books this week, the veteran has stated that he is looking forward to taking up his new role with Tottenham.

“I’m delighted to be back at Tottenham and look forward to immersing myself in the job,” Parker said.

“Obviously it wasn’t an easy decision to call time on my playing career though I’m looking forward to this new chapter and am grateful to Spurs for handing me this opportunity at such an exciting time in the Club’s history.

“It is a great honour to represent the Club both as a coach and ambassador.”

Parker’s professionalism and positive attitude will only be positives to have around the club and the 36-year-old will be an ideal role model for Tottenham’s next generation of youngsters.

Although he played for a number of other London clubs during his career, Spurs fans have a soft spot for the retired midfielder and most will surely be glad that he is back.

It will be interesting viewing to see if Parker can make an impact coaching in the youth ranks and eventually play a role with Mauricio Pochettino and the first-team squad.

The majority of Lilywhites are happy with the appointment.
