Tottenham Hotspur legend Son Heung-min got his hands on a trophy after a torrid 10-year wait. The Spurs captain led the team to a 1-0 win over Manchester United to clinch the Europa League.
Amid the euphoria of winning the title, Saudi Arabia is reportedly plotting a swoop for Son as they bid to continue boosting their global profile with European stars.
The North Londoners face a dilemma. Take whatever we can get from the Saudi Pro League and sell the South Korean attacker, or let him enter the final year of his contract with the club.
This is the best time to sell Son. The 32-year-old has displayed a visible decline this term. His cameo in that Europa League final was the showing of a man entering the twilight of his career.
The reasonable thing would be to try and get a decent sum to bolster the coffers before heading into the transfer market to find a potential replacement.
However, even in his worst season in recent memory, Son netted seven Premier League goals and created 16 big chances.
His speed and dribbling may be waning, but he is still decisive in the final third. His football IQ is immense.
Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel did not do enough to convince them that they were ready to take the mantle from Son. It would be silly to sell him.
Besides, his experience will be crucial for this squad, especially if Cristian Romero leaves this summer. Spurs cannot have many dressing room leaders jumping ship simultaneously.
Tottenham need a new young, hungry left-winger to start while Son mentors him, and Odobert could use a loan to gain experience.
Tottenham should make a play for Lyon winger Malick Fofana, in our opinion. The 20-year-old caught the eye this season, bagging five goals and four assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances.
Fofana also registered six goals and two assists in 10 Europa League outings. The Belgian could develop into an even more productive winger under manager Ange Postecoglou.
Fofana can explode if he has Son showing him the ropes. He can become a more ruthless finisher, and there will be no pressure on him when the legend is still around.
