Son Heung-min’s future up in the air as Tottenham eye summer shake-up

Tottenham Hotspur could be preparing to bid farewell to a modern legend, as Son Heung-min’s future at the club hangs in the balance.

Spurs are eyeing a major squad rebuild ahead of their return to the Champions League, and The Telegraph reports that their captain and talisman could be one of those who make way.

The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract after the club activated an additional 12-month clause back in January. But Spurs are considering whether to cash in while they still can.

After leading the club to their first major trophy in 17 years, Son could end his Tottenham career on a high and is attracting strong interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

They see him as an asset and as a player who could rake in significant commercial revenue.

Since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen a decade ago, the South Korean forward has lit up the Premier League with his pace, relentless work rate, and eye for goal.

After Harry Kane’s blockbuster move to Bayern Munich, Son picked up the armband and has since cemented his place as arguably the club’s best signing of the past decade.

A recurring foot injury limited Son’s involvement towards the end of the season.

He missed the final fixture, where Spurs suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion, and sat out the first half of their Europa League success against Manchester United.

The ‘outstanding’ forward is currently with the South Korea national team, who play their final two World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and Kuwait this month.

They need only a point to qualify for the global showpiece in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, although Son may be forced to watch much of the proceedings from the bench as he recovers from injury.

Meanwhile, Son could follow Ange Postecoglou through the Spurs exit this summer. The Australian manager’s future is still up in the air despite handing Spurs a trophy.

His exploits in Bilbao have certainly lifted spirits, but chairman Daniel Levy is still keeping his cards in his pocket, although Brentford’s Thomas Frank has been linked with the Spurs job.
