Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank does not want another striker before the transfer deadline despite Dominic Solanke missing the 1-0 loss to Bournemouth this weekend.
Spurs have had to rely on Richarlison in the opening games, with Solanke sidelined due to an ankle issue.
Solanke came on as a substitute in the previous two Premier League outings but was not in the squad for the clash with the Cherries, leaving Frank short of options up top.
Still, Frank is not looking to enter the transfer market. He is okay with his two striking options despite Tottenham competing on multiple fronts this season.
“No. I would say not particularly,” Frank responded when asked about getting a third centre-forward (via Football London).
“To have the three strikers in the squad can also cause a problem, as you can only play one at a time.
“It’s a fine balance. I’m not saying we will never go for another striker at another time, but I’m happy with Dom and Richarlison.”
It is worth noting that Mathys Tel can do a job up top even though he is not a perfect fit for the role. He can deputise for Solanke, who earns £90,000 per week.
Brennan Johnson, who has been disappointing playing out wide, could also handle the responsibility if push comes to shove.
Despite Solanke’s latest setback, Frank is not concerned about getting another centre-forward.
The manager chose to highlight the lack of creativity as a bigger problem instead. Spurs were uninspired in the final third.
Tottenham’s attacking display left much to be desired, and the fans let their voices be heard with loud groans throughout the stadium.
Frank believes that Xavi Simons will help sort out the creativity issue. While Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur are good at many things, splitting defences isn’t one of them.
Simons will help unlock deep blocks that sit back against Tottenham this season.
Spurs also need to start showing the defensive resilience they displayed in the opening games versus Burnley and Manchester City.
Frank had touched on the poor organisation and failure to win duels, which led to Bournemouth’s chances.
For now, another striker is not on Frank’s agenda, even though it won’t be a bad call to add another body due to Solanke’s injury history.
