Tim Sherwood lavishes praise on Igor Tudor after Liverpool draw

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has lavished praise on interim manager Igor Tudor after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

The North Londoners looked like they were heading for a seventh consecutive defeat when Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a fantastic free-kick after just 18 minutes.

However, a last-minute strike from Richarlison helped Tottenham snatch a draw to keep their heads above water. Tottenham’s performance in the first half hardly reflected the severity of their situation.

But they showed more fight and character in the second 45 minutes and deservedly came away with a point.

Sherwood makes surprise Tudor U-turn

Sherwood shared that sentiment, praising the team for an uptick in performances.

The ex-Aston Villa gaffer is one of many voices who have slammed Tudor since his appointment, and even went as far as dismissing his chances of landing the job permanently.

However, he has since performed a U-turn. While he warned that there is still a long way to go, he took his time to praise Tudor for the result against Liverpool.

“The performance speaks louder than words,” Sherwood said on Sky Sports

“I thought it was a decent performance from Tottenham, I thought they deserved the result, let’s give the man [Tudor] a little bit of credit. He’s taken some stick since he’s been here [at Tottenham].

“We were only saying what we see, and it wasn’t great. The results weren’t coming, there was nothing to hold on to performance wise.

“But I think yesterday, the performance, even if they didn’t get the draw, I thought it was encouraging to see, and they thoroughly deserved a point in the end.

“If he got nothing out of that game yesterday, he would be gone by now. It was a very good day for Tottenham. It’s still only one point, they’re still in the mire, but there’s hope.”

Tottenham are still just one point above the relegation zone, with Nottingham Forest and West Ham United breathing down their neck.

Spurs will face Forest in a must-win relegation six-pointer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next weekend, and that clash will likely decide both the club’s and Tudor’s fate.

With only eight games remaining, Tottenham must find a way to put some distance between them and the bottom three.
